Flyers Acquire Henrik Zetterberg
Philadelphia CSN - Its official , Philadelphia has traded F Rick Nash to Pittsburgh inexchange for F Henrik Zetterberg. Philadelphia was looking for a 1st line center all summer and finally they found a buyer who can take Rick Nash's 7.8 Million salary. Pittsburgh wanted to reunite Rick Nash and Jeff Carter together and Flyers believed that would be the best destination for Rick Nash to go to , where he is close to his home town. So it did really make sense for both sides. Along with Nash, Frans Nielsen was included in that package for Zetterberg as well. Nielsen was acquired by Philly early in the off-season from Tampa Bay Lightning, but GM Zach Parise wasnt happy with the 2nd line after the trade. " We really needed an upgrade, Matt Duchene is young and we needed a player who has won the cup in their careers and has expierence in the playoffs and a legit #1 Centermen. We were really thankful to bring in Henrik who is that type of player," said GM Zach Parise.
We wish Rick Nash the best of luck in Pittsburgh and thankful for waiving his NTC to help both teams on their needs. He is a great player and he will be even greater with Jeff Carter centering him in Pittsburgh. On top of that Rick Nash is closer to home only 4 hours drive from his home town, so it really does help his family to come and watch him play in Pittsburgh.
" Right now, Henrik Zetterberg will be slotted in on our 1st line center position and Matt Duchene will be our 2nd line center, it will be a learning expierence for Matt who is just too oyung to take on a big role come the playoffs, He needs a leader and a mentor for him to become a number one center," says GM Zach Parise.
On who will be the new Captain of the Philadelphia Flyers? " We will name a captain before the season starts, it should be a no-brainer some will ask," joked GM Zach Parise. " Right now , we are just very happy to bring Henrik Zetterberg on board and its just one step away from being contenders," says GM Zach Parise.
